Spatial Awareness in Phys. Ed with Fast-Paced Games

Families,

I do hope that all is well with you. It has been a very exciting first month for me and I could not be happier to be the Phys. Ed teacher at BSI. I am really getting a chance to know my students and really get them moving in class. Many of our classes have been focused on teaching and training our spatial awareness. Almost all of our classes have been playing “EXTINCTION”. EXTINCTION is a fast paced, strategy laden team tag game. If you have heard your students say that they went “hunting” in school that day, I assure you that no one was hurt. Instead, students have been learning to develop different strategies that allow their team to both survive as a unit and eliminate other teams in the gym.

We are beginning our practice examinations for the NYC FITNESSGRAM assessments and working on improving our scores for when we take the actual test. Starting the week of October 24th, we will be starting a two week “Floorball” unit presented by the New York Islanders Hockey Team. We were selected as one of the schools that the Islanders would offer the program. I am excited to bring this program to BSI and always be on the lookout for other opportunities for our students to experience different programs in PE class.

I look forward to continuing to get to know your students and yourselves as time goes on at BSI.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day/week/month as you read this.

Talk soon!
