Grade 2 Week of 11/21/16

Dear Families,

It was a pleasure seeing all of you on Family Monday. It was wonderful to see our kids so happy while they were explaining to you what they were learning. This week was a short but busy one.

In Reader’s Workshop we will be starting a new class read aloud, “The Magic Tunnel”. This will coincide with what the students are learning in Social Studies.

During Writer’s Workshop, we are continuing our research using laptops and other electronic devices. We are now at the stage where we are going to begin actually finding answers to our burning questions.

In Math, we are finishing up our story problem unit and are continuing to play differentiated math games. Next week we will begin a unit on measurement!

We launched our Social Studies unit “New York City Over Time” and are beginning with a small research project on the Lenape people, who were the first inhabitants of the New York City area. The students have chosen an area of research and will work with a partner to present a poster on their topic. Today we had a wonderful visit to the Wyckoff House, which gave us a taste of what life was like in colonial times.

Just a few reminders: the Timeline Project has been sent home and is due on Monday, December 12, 2016. If you have any questions please reach out.  Tomorrow, Wednesday November 23, 2016 is “Pajama Day”. Please have your child either wear or bring their PJ’s to school. This is a great way to show school spirit in our community.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the time with your families!

Ms. Mathis & Ms. Anne
