K001 News Week of 11/20/16

Hello K001 Families!

Life in K001 has been very busy. Here are a just a few of the things we have been up to.

Friday, we had a wonderful guest reader in our classroom. Mrs. Souidi (Emir’s mom) came to read the book

Dragon’s Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. The students enjoyed the story and laughs were had by all. Thank you Mrs. Souidi.

Math Investigation- “Beautiful Stuff”. In this unit, students have been developing strategies for accurately counting and keeping track of quantities and sorting objects into two or more categories based on shared attributes. Students work in small groups or partnerships.

Writing for Many Purposes –

As a class, we have begun exploring the question – “Why do people write”?

We created a list of some of our ideas and realized that one reason for writing is to communicate information. Students realized that labeling items in the classroom and hallway would be a great way to communicate hallway safety and to help people locate materials in the classroom.

People write to:

  • to tell what something is (labels)

  • to learn how things work (recording observations)

  • to remember (lists)

  • to share stories (books, poems, songs)

  • to give information (signs)

  • to let someone know how they are feeling (cards, letters)

Vocabulary and Key Terms: list, card, sign, letter, mail, song, poem

Reminders:

  1. Snack – Make sure your child has snack everyday!  Lunch is not until 12:55 so our morning snack is very important. Please provide a healthy snack (fruit, cheese, crackers, raw vegetables, etc.) Juice is not allowed during snack.  Please provide your child with a water bottle labeled with his/her name.
