Grade 6, 7 & 8 Science Week of 12/19/16

The 6th graders are hard at work on their Travel Guide to the Solar System. Using books and the internet they are learning and writing about their travel destination for the year 2100.

The 7th graders are finishing up their study of chemical solutions. This week the focus is on the properties and uses of acids and bases and they are finding out how useful these chemicals can be. The final experiment of 2016 is to determine which of Ron’s antacid tablets will help his heartburn the best (Tums, Alka-Seltzer or CVS generic). The protocol for this experiment will be entirely student-driven.

The 8th graders are nearing the end of our unit about Human Anatomy with the focus on Endocrine Glands and the Excretory System. A short video, showing a man lifting a car to rescue a child, shows what amazing powers adrenaline and other hormones have. Next stop – the mysterious brain!
