4th Grade Humanities
Dear Parents,
I wanted to share a resource that I have been using with students who need extra support in building vocabulary. However, I am finding it very helpful and wanted to extend the use to the entire class.
VOCABULARY
Search for Vocabulary.com on the interent. Here is the direct link.
Click on “sign up.” You will need to create an account and a password that is free. This is a code that takes you to my account.
I am collecting word lists that support what we are learning in school. I also am providing lists of words preemptively, in order for students to become familiar with words that will come up in our read aloud.
ENRICHMENT
In the spirit of design, ingenuity and STEM I wanted to share a great free event at the BEAM center .
FIELD TRIP
In addition, I wanted to let you know about the next trip the fourth grade will go on. The fourth grade will be traveling by subway to the Center for Architecture, in lower Manhattan. This trip will be our culminating event in our Modern Day Native American Design challenge! Students will participate in a workshop titled, “Green Building.” Working with a modified version of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating checklist, students become familiar with sustainable design strategies and design their own “green” buildings. The checklist will challenge students to think about the importance of site planning, improving energy efficiency, conserving materials and resources, enhancing indoor environmental quality, and capturing rain and gray water for reuse. It should be an awesome program!
402 we will be traveling by subway, January 23rd and 401 will be traveling on January 24th. We are leaving the school at 9:30 and returning by 1:30. We will be departing the school at 8:50am and returning by 2pm. Field trip forms will go home soon!
Best,
Christy
