First Grade MCNY Trip Prep

Aerial view of Central Park and ManhattanPlease show this image to your child of Manhattan. Talk about the layout of the city. (Central Park is in the center). Ask your child what he/she notices and thinks about how Manhattan was built and structured. We learned about what urban, suburban and rural communities mean. You may also want to review and go over them by googling and showing your child images of each of these 3 types of communities (urban, suburban, rural) Talk about what life might be like if you lived in each of these kinds of communities. How do you think children get to school? What kinds of work might be there? What transportation is accessible or do you think people use mostly? This is a chance for you to talk about your own upbringing…what kind of community did you grow up in? What was life like for you? How did you get to school? We (first grade) will be attending an urban grid planning workshop at the Museum of the City of NY on Monday, February 6th.

If you have a chance, please take your child to go visit these museums:
