2nd Grade is “Raising the Bridge!”

Dear Families,
We are so pleased to announce the date for our Annual “Second Grade Brooklyn Bridge Raising”. Our second graders will be raising the bridge on March 23, 2017 (weather permitting) at 9am in the school yard. We encourage all families to take part in our raising. We would love to have you there!
Our tiny architects have been participating in classes from The Center for Architecture, where they are learning why and how these amazing structures are made and stay suspended. Not only are we learning visually, but we are learning kinesthetically as well. Through their curious minds our students will be putting different types of bridges to the test by creating models out of marshmallows and toothpicks
We have also partnered with Construction Kids, in which the students are recreating their very own Brooklyn Bridge to take home. Students are learning the mechanics of making a bridge and learning how to use different tools and materials. Such as nails, wood, hammers and strings. The educators from Construction Kids will also be aiding in the raising of the bridge.
We will keep you informed of any changes due to weather as the date comes closer but as of now the date is Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 9am until around 1230pm. Parents may go straight to the school yard and we will meet you there. There is no need to enter the school.
Again, we look forward to seeing you there and for you to see what amazing builders our second graders are! Below are some pictures of the students building their bridges.
Have a great week!
Ms. Mathis and Ms. Anne
