Finding Insight to Inform Discussion

This week, we began our first round of Socratic Seminars about the novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.  Students are extremely engaged!  To prepare to deeply understand the dense language and new concepts in the text, I taught a lesson on how to derive insight from complex language.  Students then created a book of insights for Part 1.  Drawing on their interest in the Arts, I asked students to create visuals under each quote that they chose to analyze, explain the quote, and then find the insight. Students then applied their insights in Socratic Seminars.
