During our grade level meetings, the issue of TRIBES and where it lives at BSI came up in every grade. TRIBES is alive and well and living inside K-3 classrooms, and our Responsive Classroom practice is in all K-8 rooms. After these meetings, we spent time as a staff reviewing our curriculum and other SEL tools to create a series of lessons we think our students will benefit from.
Beginning next week, Monday, April 24th, the schedule includes SEL classes for grades 4-7 with curriculum around teaching tolerance, kindness, healthy attitudes toward our bodies, healthy friendships and relationships, and civic responsibility. These are all learnings that begin at home, and we’re counting on the home school connection to strengthen these learnings.
This morning, Gibney Dance Troupe led a workshop for 6th, 7th and 8th graders entitled “Hands are for Holding.”
We look forward to continuing this work, and welcome your feedback and questions.
