Grade 6 Humanities: Welcome!

Dear 6th Grade Students and Families,

Thank you to everyone who came out to Curriculum Night!  I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you.

Together, we will be discussing, performing and creating as we explore the Eastern Hemisphere.  Aligned with the New York State Scope and Sequence, our units will span from World Religions to Early Humans then through Ancient River Valley Civilizations and onto Greek and Roman History.  Geography will be included within each unit.

Our questions will guide our exploration and will include an understanding of what it means to live with integrity rooted in our belief systems, to be part of a thriving democracy, and how innovation leads to the rise and fall of civilizations.

We are taking a inter-disciplinary approach to Humanities and will be working closely with Ms. Singer to integrate the math curriculum into our social studies units.  As an example, will be starting off with an exploration into the role geometry has played in religious artwork and symbolism.  Stay tuned!

Our blog will be updated on a weekly basis and will give you information about what we have accomplished and where we are heading.  The school calendar will have the dates you need to stay connected.

If you are new to BSI or if you have been here but have questions about School Loop, please come to our School Loop parent workshop Tuesday, September 26th between 8:00-8:30am with an afternoon session between 3:00-3:30pm in the library on the 3rd Floor. The best way to reach me is via e-mail at rwaters@bsi686.org.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

I look forward to sharing our work with you each week here on our blog!

All the best,

Ms. Waters
