Grade 6 Math: Ending Ratios and Starting The Number System

Ratios

Over the past 2 months, we have been working diligently on ratio, decimals, and percents.  Students took the end of unit test on Thursday and Friday in class.   They will get the tests back next week and should make corrections.  Correction must be done on looseleaf and attached to the original test. They include any incorrect solutions resolved and an explanation of their mistakes.  I have found that the corrections are always worth doing and students learn from looking back at their work.  Also, students can earn up to half of their points lost through corrections.

The Number System: Part 1

Next week, we move on to looking more closely at our number system.

We will be exploring and expanding what we know about the following:

  • Prime and composite numbers
  • Common factors, common multiples, the least common multiple, and the greatest common factor
  • Exponential notation
  • Relate the prime factorization of two numbers to the least common multiple and greatest common factor of two numbers
  • Distributive Property
  • Use the properties of operations of numbers, including the Distributive Property and the Order of Operations convention, to write equivalent numerical expressions
