K-001 Has New Reading Buddies!

We had our first meeting with our 7th grade buddies today!  This year, each class at BSI has been paired with a buddy class. K-001 students were paired up with a 7th grade class and each child has a buddy or two.  We wrote greeting cards to our buddies to say ‘hello’  and received cards from them as well.  The kids were so excited.  We talked about how to be a good reading buddy and came up with questions to ask our buddies so we could get to know them better.  Our first meeting was a smash!  Each kindergartner chose a favorite emergent storybook to share with his/her buddy.  The buddies read together and then colored a turkey together for Thanksgiving!  I barely beat Ms. Bush (7th grade teacher) to the tissue box.  It was sweet beyond words!  Before our buddies left, we watched a short Thanksgiving video of the song “Over the River” with our buddies. Needless to say, we are definitely looking forward to seeing our buddies again soon.

We also read the book “Giving Thanks:  A Native American Good Morning Message” and thought about the things we are thankful for.  Then we created little turkeys out of paper towel rolls and wrote what we are thankful for on each feather!  Voila!  No need to buy a centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table.  🙂  Be sure to check your child’s backpack.  We put them in a plastic ziploc for safe traveling on the Thanksgiving holiday.

We are feeling pretty thankful here today in K-001 and we hope you are, too!  Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy your time with family and friends.
