Coat Drive

Dear BSI Families:

This winter, thousands of our fellow New Yorkers will have to make a difficult choice between buying a warm coat and taking care of some other basic need. New Yorkers without a home will especially need a coat to help them negotiate the harsh realities of the season. Without a place to store their coat during the summer, 90% of our homeless population will rely on a donated coat to keep from freezing.

The Coat Drive is city-wide effort run by New York Cares which aims to collect and distribute 125,000 coats each year. The Coat Drive has been running for 29 years and counting, having collected and distributed 1.7 million winter coats to-date.

Do you have coats you are not using? During this holiday season, what could be better than helping a person in need?

Between December 4 and December 15th, the Give Back Committee is proud to host its Sixth Annual Coat Drive to benefit New York Cares.

Please bring or send your gently used coat(s) to school, and drop them in box labeled “Coat Drive” in the BSI office on the fourth floor.

As you sort through your closets, please take a minute to talk to your children about the importance of helping those who need our help the most.

At the conclusion of the collection period, we will deliver all the coats to a local New York Cares drop off center.

Thank you for your generous participation in this effort!
