DANCEroom Update! K-5 December 14th

It has been a very busy week here in room 301! As the 2017 year comes to an end, we are finishing up many different dance lessons and units. The last two weeks have been very exciting for our youngest dancers as they were able to go on two class trips. Unfortunately, I missed them incredibly and look forward to seeing them next week. I did get to see K-002 briefly and we danced and talked about the “Nutcracker Story “.

The first grade finished up their “pathways” exploration with a “Movement Map“. These little dancers are practicing being both performers and audience members.

In second grade, the students prepared an “underwater quartet” utilizing their movement studies of individual sea creatures. It was so much fun watching these small groups of dancers working together to create unique patterns for their animals.

In third grade, students finished sharing their “Syllable Dances“. By taking all the syllables in both partners’ names and then adding a beginning and ending shape, dancers created a short sequence of shapes and movements.

Our oldest dancers in 4th and 5th grade are finishing up a Hip-Hop/ Anti-bullying Unit. They are preparing for an informal showing next week of a group project they have been working on for 3 weeks. I am extremely proud of all four classes as they have shown a strong commitment to working collaboratively with each other.

Have a wonderful weekend!
