Welcome (Back) To Music!

Hello Everyone,
For those who do not know me, I’m Mrs.Cintula. Pardon my absence/lack of music posts, but I just returned from maternity leave on December 1st. During my first week back, I was getting caught up with what has been happening in music while I was at home with my daughter.
I spent those first days getting to know my students, establishing routines and expectations, and surveying classes about what they would like to see in their music curriculum. I am also learning who can play instruments, read/write music and who just enjoys listening to music on a daily basis!
Week of 12/11:
In grades 1-3, students are starting to talk about the difference between beat and rhythm. Grades 1 and 2 were also able to sing through a few winter songs (Walking In A Winter Wonderland, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells).
In grades 4-8, I have asked all classes to create a personal music timeline. This timeline allows me to see the students individual experiences with music – from early childhood until the present day. The timeline consists of at least 5 songs that students identify with, enjoy listening to, or correlate to a life event. (For more information, please see the notes and expectations that are posted in School Loop.) These projects are being presented the week of 12/18 via Google Slides or on a poster.
I am looking forward to seeing these presentations, hearing their song choices and learning about WHY they chose these songs.
Stay tuned for more music news! 2018 is already looking bright and exciting.
All the best,
Mrs.Cintula
