Music Update: Grades 3 & 4

Hello Families!

Since our fourth graders have already finished the instrument study, and the 3rd graders are right behind them, I wanted to share a glimpse of what is next in terms of music theory!! *3rd graders will be starting this work when we come back from February break!

401 and 402 have had their first “theory” lesson! Since I’ve already seen 401 twice this week, they were all able to WRITE their own rhythms before their 2nd period was over. It was exciting for me – and them – that within 45 minutes, some students went from not knowing the difference between a whole note and a half note, to being able to write musical examples that can be tapped out.

I am eager to keep this momentum moving! Play ALL kinds of music in the car and at home, and have your child tap the beat/rhythm as they listen! Dance and have some fun! Music is everywhere and it should be enjoyed.

Enjoy the break and encourage your student to talk about what they are learning!
