May in the Dance Room – Week of 5/10/18

This week in dance, kindergarten and first grade students have been getting ready for their dance show on Friends and Family Day. They will be showing all the fun movement that they have learned throughout the year. These little dancers are so excited to perform, so we hope to see you there!

Second grade continues their exploration of World Celebration movement and are finishing up props to be used in their dances. In third grade, dancers are investigating math concepts of shapes and telling time. Students are being asked to define basic geometric shapes with their bodies and group themselves in sets using various body parts. Other dancers are trying to figure out how to positions their arms and hands like a body clock so that an audience could understand the time that is being conveyed. This takes some thought about mirroring and opposition.

In fourth and fifth grades, students had a special Hip Hop teaching artist from Dave Wave, Inc come in and create a circle dance on them. The dancers were thrilled that she used steps that they already knew to create a dance that was unique for their class. Keomi will be coming back one more time next week to continue sharing with our BSI students.

Have a wonderful weekend!
