Grade 5 #BetterTogether #Projectbasedlearning

We can’t wait to see you all either on May 18th, for Family and Friends Day or on May 23rd, for Spring Family Fun Night. Come one, come all…siblings, cousins, grandparents, parents, friends! If you love to learn, collaborate and have fun, then BSI is the place to be! (Be sure to visit the Science Lab where you’ll join Mr. Ron, Ms. Audrey and Sevgi, for STEAM Design Challenges on Family Fun Night!)

Please, please, please…COME! Our kids have been working hard and it will mean the world to us, if you can make it! Also, please come to Family Fun Night (we have an epic design challenge for you to work on with your child!)

BSI Family and Friends Day: Friday, May 18th 8:40 – 10:40 am

BSI Family Fun Night: Wednesday, May 23rd 4:30 – 7:30 pm

Humanities AGENDA: IMMIGRATION INQUIRY SHARE PART 1  (Part 2 will be our Together in Dance Performance in June, Date TBA. This is also NOT to be missed!)

Students will be sharing 1 diary entry in full character…full character meaning – symbolically & thoughtfully dressed as their character (with purposefully researched, chosen and handmade wear — props/memorabilia/accessories) After having done extensive research on their character’s country, and after having learned about the immigration process and challenges in the U.S. during the late 1800’s into the 1900’s, students have constructed diaries in first person perspectives. Yes, we value Creativity and Maker Mindsets (because Creativity is intelligence having fun!) Yes, we believe in Albert Einstein’s quote: Imagination is more important than knowledge! Yes, we believe in teaching kids “how” to be independent learners, thinkers, and doers and take agency and ownership over their own learning process! Yes, we believe in collaborating with peers that we can learn from! Yes, we believe in fostering a nonjudgemental, noncritical, but constructive, engaging, experiential and fun learning environment! Yes, we believe in kindness, connections and effective communications! Yes, we believe in the power of positivity in grappling with inquiry!

Students have been working hard on researching, designing, sketching, constructing, empathizing, learning (about immigrants, countries, Ellis Island, the immigration process, U.S. events and history) and doing. Students will have 2 minutes each only! Please come and join us!
