Gr 2 Week of 5/22 Exciting News!

Hello Families!

It was great to see so many of you at Friends and Family Day. Thank you for helping us get ready for the Grand Opening of Rainbow Messengers Post Office this Friday!! We are very excited. We will spend time this week writing letters, filling orders from other classes, learning about our jobs, and making more supplies.

This truly is a very busy time of year. Yesterday we made our beautiful bridges with Construction Kids. Today we have our second session with Beam. We will begin building the components of our culminating project! Tomorrow we will celebrate all of our academic and artistic interests with a very special Family Fun Night. The events will take place from 4:30-7:30 in BSI classrooms, and will include art, literacy, math, and STEM activities geared for students of all ages. Everyone is welcome!

Next week is Spirit Week on our campus. See below for details:

Amidst all our exciting activities, we are continuing to read, write, and do math! In reading, we are beginning our end of the year, one-one conferences with students to discuss areas of strength and to create goals moving forward. Students are working on reading with stamina for increasingly long periods of time. In writing, we are finishing our first book reviews. By next week, students will choose a second review topic of their choice. As you go to restaurants and activities after school and over the long weekend, talk to your student about places they might like to review. Options are endless, but include restaurants, state and national parks, museums, movies, amusement parks, beaches and stores. In math, we are continuing our focus on subtraction by tackling complex story problems, while also practicing our strategies.

Finally, our butterflies have hatched! They are beautiful and healthy, and we look forward to sending them off into the outside world later this week.

Have a wonderful week,

Ms. Anne and Ms. Mathis
