Dance! Week of 5/25/18
Both the kindergarten and first grade students began a new unit of study this week called – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. These young dancers will start to understand how we can use dance and movement to tell stories. The second graders will find connections in the coming weeks as they are presently witnessing the life cycle of a butterfly in their classrooms. This week, they finished up their World Celebrations Unit with a final performance.
Third grade dancers continue to explore the numerous connections between Math and Dance. This week, some students finished their body clock partner dances and had the chance to share with their friends. In the coming weeks we will look at sequencing and how we use patterns.
Some of our fourth grade dancers had the opportunity to explore flocking in a large group. Students were asked to establish a “group mind” to move in and around the space while continually changing leadership. This was so interesting to watch them develop and experience in the classroom.
And lastly, our fifth grade movers continue to show me creative and articulate dance making abilities. One class got to explore the making of duets while another practiced the mirror and shadow tools. Bravo to all my students for applying and embodying what they have learned.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Diane
