Inside the Dance Room! 11/2/18

This week in dance, the kindergarten classes explored the concept of size by moving like giants and elves. And in first grade they began discussions about all the different kinds of pathways we use to move through space. Second graders are using their ideas created in small groups to build a community dance involving shapes, transitional movement and gestures. And the third graders continue making connections with language arts by creating movement that represents punctuation marks.

In fourth grade, the dance students discussed the meaning of values and are working collaboratively to discover what that means for their class. After establishing several individual class values, students will be asked to create gestures and sequences of movement to represent their ideas. Fifth graders shared their chance dances and are now taking the time to reflect on collaborative skills and choreographic choices. Next, they will be moving into a language arts and dance investigation. And finally, the fifth grade dance elective students are discussing the concept of levels. They will use the shadow and mirror techniques to embody their ideas. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade dance elective students continue to explore the fundamental dance element of relationships by working in duets and trios to create a short structured original dance work.
