Gr6 Humanities Celebrating Light…

As we continue our study of World Religions, we are analyzing symbolism and themes that have woven the tapestry of the human experience since the beginning of time. We are now focusing on understanding how light has been used as a symbol in religious teachings, literature, and storytelling throughout our shared history.

Through their inquiry, students will explore the principles of light from a scientific standpoint as they create artwork designed as symbolic representations of beliefs. We will also be exploring the relationship between light and time.  As students begin their study of Astronomy in Science, they will also work to understand how the cycles of the moon and our understanding of stars and the solar system relate to origin stories of various religions throughout the Eastern Hemisphere.

We will also understand how time keeping methods affected the development of humankind’s first civilizations.

We will be sharing our process at our next Family Friday on December 7th in Room 426.

Thank you to everyone who came to our last Family Friday and made mandalas with us! Hope to see you on the 7th!
