Spring into DANCE! Week of 3/8/19
The first week of March brought more energy and smiles into room 301.
Kindergarten and first graders, continue to explore shapes. This week they played the shape museum game where dancers use their imagination to pretend they are sculptures in a museum or children walking around noticing the various shapes hiding in the sculptures. Students are asked to create and copy original shape ideas. Second graders completed an animal chart and tried some of their movement ideas in the general space setting.
Third graders are also exploring shapes. They are practicing their collaborative skills by working in small groups and creating shape sculptures. Our fourth grade dancers continue their studies of Classical Indian Dance, and fifth graders are using Laban Movement Analysis to create an original work structured in the ABA template.
The fifth grade dance elective students are also experimenting with the ABA choreographic tool as they build a dance incorporating locomotor and non-locomotor movement. And lastly, our middle school dancers are creating their own dances inspired by Alvin Ailey’s signature piece, Revelations. Students will be sharing their work with one another next week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
