March in the Dance Room! – 3/29/19

It finally feels like Spring!

This week in dance, our youngest students explored how the body can twist into many different positions. And the first graders created ABC dances using linear, curved and twisted shapes. The second grade continued their insect movement study by creating a partner dance using the mirror tool and an ABA template. Next week they will explore underwater creatures and how they move.

Third graders created a dance showing time with their bodies.  Students worked with a partner to build a schedule showing different activities that are done throughout the day. One dancer shows the time with their body, while the other demonstrates movement to reflect the activity. Our fourth grade dancers are learning about teamwork and collaboration as they work together to learn and execute the Israeli Folk Dance called the Hora. In fifth grade, students are discussing ballroom dancing and best strategies to learn the different styles.

Lastly, the middle school dancers explored the concept of energy this week. This includes different ideas about movement dynamicseffort and force. Students continue to work on their independent choreographic projects which will be presented at the end of the year.

Have a wonderful weekend!
