Advisory September Update

Dear Families,
Welcome to another school year at BSI! We hope you and your family had a lovely summer.
On Thursday September 12th, we had our first Curriculum night here at BSI and it was wonderful to see so many of you in attendance. I enjoyed having the opportunity to connect with many of you and to speak with you about Advisory and how it supports students in Middle School.
Advisory is made up of a small group of approximately 13 students and 1 advisor. The class meets twice a week for 45 minutes. The advisor serves as a teacher, mentor, ally, advocate and resource for your child. In Advisory, we aim to create a sense of family where each student experiences Belonging, Significance and Fun!
Since Middle School is departmentalized, we feel it is important that students have one adult that can think holistically about them and serve as a point of contact to help students navigate challenges or concerns that come up throughout the school year.
Topics that are discussed in Advisory may include:
- BSI Community Agreements
- Setting Academic goals
- Study habits
- Bullying
- Empathy
- Communication skills
- Bias
- Disability Etiquette
- Gender Expression
- Healthy Relationships
- Cell phone policy/Internet use
- Stereotypes
- Hygiene
- Managing Emotions
- Conflict Resolution
- Service Learning Projects
And much more…
We look forward to a great school year!
