Book Baggies!

Over the course of the past few weeks, students were met with individually to read and everyone was placed on their independent reading level.  During this time, each student reads a book to me and I take note of the strategies they are using to decode words as well as their fluency and expression. Then, students are asked to retell the story and answer some questions to assess their comprehension.

There are some books in our library that are leveled by difficulty, beginning at level A and moving up.  Students went “book shopping” for books on their independent level and placed them in their book baggie. Students should have eight books in their book baggies: three on level, three above, and two choice books. This baggie will travel between home and school each day.  We really need your cooperation, as we will use the books in class as well.  The books will be changed weekly. An important letter went home in your child’s take home folder today.  It has information on how to help your beginning reader. Be sure to keep it in a safe place so you can refer to it when needed. Thanks as always for all your support!  The children are really excited about their book baggies!
