Kindergarten Distance Learning

Dear Kindergarten Families,

We hope you are all doing well despite the circumstances. We are thinking of all our students as we work on planning for the weeks ahead.

We will be posting assignments on School Loop for each day beginning on Monday, March 23rd. We will mostly be assigning Reading, Writing and Math work each day. Social Studies and Science activities may be embedded within others. Dance, Art, Science and Gym teachers will also be posting some assignments on School Loop. Each day we will post a morning message to read with your child. Look for it on School Loop under “News”. In terms of turning in work, if you are unable to print something, that is fine. Students can do their writing work on whatever paper you have by drawing the lines. Then take a picture and submit work via school loop. Instructions forthcoming.

In the meantime, spend time reading, drawing, and playing with your children. Play is just as important as academics especially for Kindergarten students and there should be time spent playing with toys each day. Some other ways to engage Kindergarten students is by allowing them to help with everyday routines at home, such as help with cooking, sorting laundry, setting the table, cleaning up, etc. These tasks teach a sense of responsibility and help children feel important at home.

We are attaching a sample schedule that your child can follow each day. This is modeled after our schedules at school. The schedule is just a suggestion, your child does not have to follow it, but we have found that kids usually work better with structure. As well as academics, we have built in times for your child to play, take breaks, eat lunch, and clean up. Some other resources that may help you at home are: Reading Strategies by Level, and Writing Paper Choices

We know that this can be a very overwhelming and uncertain time for everyone, especially children. That being said, we would like to still maintain our sense of community throughout this change. Ms. Rita and Mrs. Micara will be conducting online read alouds at least once a week. Keep an eye out for these announcements in our morning message. Please know that we are here for you as your children’s teachers and that you can reach out to us for whatever you might need.

Thank you so much for your continued support as we work together for our students.

All the best,

Ms. Rita and Mrs. Micara
