Grade 8 Humanities Week of 11/21/16

Dear Families,
The 2016 Presidential Election has and continues to be one of the most controversial of all times. It has revealed existing divisions in our American society that we haven’t seen openly since The American Civil War. Over the next few years, it will be increasingly important for all of us to listen to each other with an open mind and a generous heart. This doesn’t mean that we will always or ever end up agreeing. But, it does mean that we will have gotten as close as we can to a real live democracy, where every voice is heard.

To this end, we created protest signs that fell into one of three categories: Pro-President Elect,  Anti-President Elect & Neutral (hopes for all of us moving forward). While choosing our protest slogans and graphics, we were sure not to include obscene language or images. This was a constructive assignment aimed at encouraging discourse not discord.

Yours,

Ms. Sacilotto
