Our Writing Share Last Friday

Last Friday the writers of 301 shared their published pieces with their classmates as well as with the writers of 302. In third grade we do shares by putting our writing out on our desks, along with a sheet of paper for comments, and then we quietly circulate around the room, reading each other’s writing and then leaving a comment about something we appreciated about it. Your children were great! They were calm and thoughtful, and left only positive comments. Each child had a whole sheet of “appreciations” when they finally returned to their desk!

Our first writing unit was about the Writing Process: collecting ideas in a writer’s notebook, then choosing a “seed idea” and nurturing it, followed by drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. We had many different types of writing represented at our share: fiction, poetry, fan fiction, personal narratives, and “all abouts.” Every single student truly did his or her Personal Best.
