PHYS. ED- BEING AWARE OF THE SPACE AROUND US. GRADES K-3

Families,

I hope that you are all doing well. Sorry for the delay in reaching out about what is going on down in the gym at BSI.  I assure you it is because we have been busy at work and play.

All of the classes from K-3 have continued to work on improving their spatial awareness. Being safe and aware of the space around us is one of the biggest rules in Coach Shea’ gym class and we have been having fun training ourselves to become more aware of the space and our bodies.

Each class we begin with running our laps to improve our cardiovascular endurance. Each week we attempt to increase the amount of laps we ran the week before, or the speed at which we are running so that we can continue to work on improving ourselves. Another thing we do each week, is have 4 students lead the exercises for their classmates. Students get to be in front of the class and choose the exercises we are doing (Frog Jumps, pushups, burpees, sit-ups, seal stretch, line jumps, just to name a few).

We have been playing games such as Extinction, Stuck In The Mud, Ghostbusters, Sharks and Minnows, Fruit Basket and more.

Each of these games have different rules, but the goal always remains the same: Be aware of what is going on around you. Students are learning how to stop and start quickly, change directions, run with their heads up, and more.

We do our very best to make sure that at the end of each class, we left every ounce of energy on the gym floor so that they can return to their homeroom teachers ready to challenge their minds.

Until next time…

Coach Shea
