5th Grade Scientists design and conduct their first experiment!
On Monday 501 and 502 conducted their first self-designed experiment. Now that we are deep into our first unit: “Variables”, students focused on a specific independent variable that may or may not impact the dependent variable. We previously saw (in our “Swingers” or pendulum lab) that the length of the string (independent variable) was directly related to the number of swings (dependent variable) the pendulum was compete in 15 seconds. In our “Flippers Experiment” students tested different variables that would affect the trajectory of an object launched.
Students are now working on reporting all of their results, like true scientists, in a formal Lab Report. The kids are working so hard; I am so proud of them! Here are some pictures from Monday’s experiments for you to enjoy 🙂
