Science: Grades 6-8 Week of 10/15/18
This week the 6th grade will be investigating thunderstorms and lightning safety. Using a Van de Graaf generator, we will produce miniature “lightning bolts” (static electricity sparks) to simulate how lightning can penetrate different substances.
The 7th grade is involved in a “Mystery Powder” investigation as part of our Chemistry unit. They have to mix different combinations of liquids and powders and record their observations so that they can, later on, use this data to identify which powders have been “accidentally” mixed together.
The 8th grade is studying and doing experiments involving the concepts of diffusion and osmosis – two very important processes that take place in cells to maintain health and homeostasis. We saw how a raw egg can have its shell dissolved by vinegar and how it may be enlarged or shrunk by placing it in various liquids.
