Phys Ed, Grades K-3. November
Families,
I hope that you and your families are doing well as we approach this holiday weekend. I know that we all have much to be thankful for.
Each class we begin with running our laps to improve our cardiovascular endurance. Each week we attempt to increase the amount of laps we ran the week before, or the speed at which we are running so that we can continue to work on improving ourselves. Another thing we do each week, is have 4 students lead the exercises for their classmates. Students get to be in front of the class and choose the exercises we are doing (Frog Jumps, pushups, burpees, sit-ups, seal stretch, line jumps, just to name a few). This year we have also delved deeper into a more student led, “partner warmup”, where students partner with a classmate and lead each other through exercises of their own.
Over the last several weeks, our classes in grades K-3 have been continuing to work on their spatial awareness and motor skills as they played various games in gym. Students have been tasked with developing both their individual and cooperative strategic skills, learning to communicate with each other throughout an activity. We have played holiday themed games such as Ghostbusters and Turkey Tag, timeless classics such as “Stuck in the Mud” and “Extinction”, and exciting new games such as Fitness GaGa Ball.
Each of these games have different rules, but the goal always remains the same: Be aware of what is going on around you. Students are learning how to stop and start quickly, change directions, run with their heads up, and most importantly, stay safe!
I am thankful to be teaching your wonderful children at BSI!
All the best,
Coach Shea
