Gr6 Media Literacy: Week of 11/26
Grade 6 has been busy familiarizing themselves with the different types of public service announcements (PSAs) and then imagining their very own based on the topic selected by their group.
The topics students will be exploring in their videos are in an effort to either raise awareness, bring a call to action, or to encourage the audience to change/promote behavior such as: internet safety, pollution, world hunger, bullying, suicide prevention, anti-drugs/drinking, homelessness, global warming, anti-discrimination, and animal abuse.
After completing the first part of the planning stage – agreeing on the main goal the group wants to achieve with their PSA – next stage is storyboarding. Usually, storyboarding comes AFTER a script is written however, as each student group has so many creative ideas it was logical to have every student brainstorm and storyboard their own original idea, then present to the group for a finial vote of which they’ll take into production. Below is just a sampling of the work coming out of both classes. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Ava Maddox (601) is tackling the topic of internet safety and what appears like, according to her storyboard, a hidden danger that many young children and teens are not aware of while surfing the internet.

In the beginning stages of storytelling, Peter Forgony (602) and Teddy Blomstrom (602) are already establishing the first few scenes for a focus on anti-bullying.

Eavan Anderson (601) quite simply and effectively tells an anti-drinking story about peer pressure and how it can lead to serious consequences.

Daria Golitsyna (602) really let her creative juices flow in this short storyboard that gets the anti-discrimination message across symbolically and visually.
