Book Baggies!

Over the course of the past few weeks,  I met with each of the students and had them read to me. As they read to me, I took note of the strategies they are using to decode words as well as their fluency (ease of words flowing together) and expression. I then asked students to retell the story and also asked some questions so I could assess their comprehension.  Then I placed them on an appropriate reading level. There are some books in our library that are leveled by difficulty, beginning at level A and moving up.  Students went “book shopping” for books on their independent level and placed them in their book baggie. This baggie will travel between home and school each day.  We really need your cooperation here.  The books will be changed weekly. An important green letter went home in your child’s take home folder. It has information on how to help your beginning reader. Be sure to keep it in a safe place so you can refer to it when needed. Thanks as always for all your support!  The children are really excited about their book baggies.
