Dance Room Update! – 5/3/19
Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a restful vacation. There is an abundance of creative movement happening in the dance room.
In kindergarten and first grade, students are preparing for our upcoming dance show on Friday, May 31st – Friends and Family Day. There will be a letter out soon that will give details as to the time and place, so stay tuned! In second grade, students are finding connections between dance and literacy as they explore a book of poems called Scrannimals by Jack Prelutsky. This week they continued to explore how our bodies can find new ways of moving by studying animals. Next week, students will learn about more scrannimals and investigate by creating movement sentences.
Third graders continue to unravel connections between dance and math. This week, there were discussions about patterns and sequences. Fourth grade has begun a choreographic device unit. Students will be working in small groups to complete short dance making tasks. This week, they learned about body parts, bases and zones. In fifth grade, students began a unit exploring Immigration. Students will use research from their humanities class and Together in Dance to compose their own dances about this historical topic.
Lastly, our middle school dancers continue to work on their independent choreographic projects. Students are reflecting on their first draft presentations from before spring break, and thinking about how to apply the feedback that was given to them to improve their work.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Diane
