What is Advisory?

Dear Families,
It was so wonderful to see so many of you this week at the curriculum afternoon gathering online. We wanted to provide you with a little more information about the Advisory program.
What is Advisory?
Advisory is an essential component of the middle school experience. Students meet on a weekly basis with an Advisory teacher and a small group of students to talk about their life experiences in Middle School and provide social-emotional and academic support. “Advisory sets the tone for developing respectful and trusting relationships among peers and build meaningful connections. Advisory creates a place for belonging, significance and fun.” (Responsive Classroom)

Resources: Our curriculum is infused with the latest research from sources like: Committee for Children, Responsive Classroom, and Morningside Center for Social Responsibility. We also use Choice Magazine from Scholastic for current topics related to teens in Middle School.
